when is a topic considered dead

i only ever been one forum ever an it was vary small so im still trying to get the hand of being on a forum as big as this one, so how mush time has to pass for a topic or forum is considered dead?

I'd say if the topic has been inactive for more than six months since the last post in the thread, its probably dead and safe to make a new topic for a subject you'd like to discuss with active members, although if there is another topic and there is relevant information, it might be worth referencing the old thread for information before you ask your question or start your discussion topic, just so there isn't a whole bunch of repetition going on.

On a different forum i once resserected a thread that was 6 years old =p. It was a game forum and it was a game balance debate. The thread had been 5 pages long at the time and was from when the game was a year old. In the space of a day the thread was over 37 pages long. it was filled with people bitching to people on the first few pages about how wrong they were and eachother when no one answered. it wasn't until page 36 that someone pointed out that the people that they where yelling at had probobly left the game years ago and would never reply lol. I lmao'ed hard after that one. :lol:
