That's funny, I didn't even know there was a Star Wars day. Maybe I should dig up the old movies to watch them. Been a while.

That would require me to acknowledge that there are new Star Wars movies. And let's face it, everything would be better off if George Lucas had gotten in a car crash back in 1993...both for Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

didnt he make star wars because of a car crash?

Kind of missing the point of the statement as the original trilogy was released well before 1993 and was not digitally 'remastered' till after that date. When it was released in 1997 with Lucas fiddling with cut scenes and adding the explosion ring to the death star, etc. The somewhat unliked prequels did not see release till 1999, 2002, and 2005.

As to him making Star Wars, a car crash never really figured into the original trilogy and the scripts went through several rewrites. The first actual draft was made some time during 1973 and told a somewhat different story. In fact in 1983 after a somewhat long writing process and various decisions as well as being pretty much burnt out on the whole thing Lucas actually made the statement in an Time magazine interview that he was done with the whole Star Wars franchise. Sadly to some that wasn't the case.

Now of course he's obviously gone back on that and perhaps history will simply repeat itself as he has made the statement in Jan, 2012 in an interview.
"Why would I make any more,... when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"
- in reference to his retirement from making any more blockbusters or even making a 'sequel trilogy'. The idea of the sequel trilogy has been around for quite a time and has been actively denied by Lucas and company for years.

Frankly in the end the current trend of Hollywood suggests that some studio would buy the rights and seek to do a remake/re-imagining of the original trilogy first...
