Repo! The Genetic Opera

Postby ShadowsMyst on Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:20 pm

Its been toted as the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" for the new millennium. And you know what? It kinda is.

If you haven't seen this, its recently been released to video and has some EXTREMELY catchy songs. It stars the likes of Anthony Head (of Buffy the vampire slayer fame), Paris Hilton, Ogre (from skinny puppy), Sarah Brightmann (Best selling soprano. what a voice!), and more.

http://www.repo-opera.com/ if you want to see some featurettes and such. Some are interesting.

Its worth a couple of watches. The reason I say a couple is because its a show that's actually BETTER the second time around.

So what's the story?

Basically it goes as such: The year is 2050 something and the world has suffered an epidemic of organ failure. From this tragedy arose GeneCo! A mega corporation which provides organ transplants... with financing! As time went on, surgery became the vogue, and people are pretty much all addicted to sugery and the drugs to control the pain, the main one called Zydrate, the street version of this is gotten by collecting it from the dead. GeneCo gets a bill passed allowing them to repossess organs from people who'd defaulted on their payments. To this end they send the legalized assassins, the Repo Men, to collect the still beating heart from your chest.

The story itself centers on one such repo man, and his daughter who doesn't know of his dual life and is sick with a 'blood disease'.

This movie is a rock musical, and some of the most notable songs you can check out online. Here's some links to my favorites:

Zydrate Anatomy

Its very interesting for a take on a dark future. I could see some of this in Shifters, particularly in the undercity in some of the subcultures of the street.

Gorbs: I think you'd like this in particular for some ideas for your cult. XD

Oh dear I love this. I must find it!

GRAVEROBBER
Zydrate comes in a little glass vial.

SHILO
A little glass vial?

GRAVEROBBER
And the little glass vial goes into the gun like battery.
And the zydrate gun goes somewhere against your anatomy
And when the gun goes off, it sparks and you're ready for surgery.

Definitely will have to make something based on that. I did have an idea for a cult ripper doc called "Malpractice" I think I'll have to take another lookie into expanding on that idea now.

Sara Brightman is a nutjob. I saw one of her concerts where she decided to finish it off by flying over the audience on wires screaming. Compared to that this movie is downright normal.

And I've still got that damn song stuck in my head.

Nutjob or not, she's got a set of pipes on her.

But then again, that makes her rather fitting for what I imagine her voice for.

The Song of the darkstar? yeah, you can imagine her voice. Nice n crazy, not making a lot of sense, but sounding really good. :D

So...I hear that Zydrate comes in a little glass vial?

Goddamn it, I watched Repo last night, and now I've constantly got that one line from Zydrate Anatomy stuck in my head, with a sort of background of "Things You See in a Graveyard."

It's...in a good way, though.

P.S.: I'm glad that Paris Hilton is a complete bitch and that she gets her comeuppance. Oh, and it was fun seeing her in the movie, too.

I hope this movie's good unlike all the crap I've seen lately.

Well, with what I've heard of Friday 13th which came out last Friday 13th, I think this is gonna be a great movie compared to it.
