so its ok to retcon an RP if the guy your RPing with is MIA or the like?

That's something to confer with a GM about on a case by case basis I feel.

If for example you were in the midst of a scene with someone and then they vanished from the boards, etc. without so much as a bye bye. Then it might be perfectly fine to simply drop the scene and continue on your merry way rather than leave the character in limbo. Or since scenes don't take place in an overly cohesive timeline you can leave that scene in limbo until a later date.

In the example of course the only thing retconned is the scene not any past experiences with that player before that scene. Also in some cases you might be rping with multiple individuals in which case conferring among those still active as well as potential GM input is the likely thing to do.
